Closing The Gap for Children was organized and incorporated on February 24, 2010. This corporation is a nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation operated exclusively for charitable purposes under the 501(c)(3) section of the Internal Revenue Code.
The specific purpose of this corporation is to educate children K-12 and prepare them for College and Career Readiness. We will educate parents on how to navigate the public, private and charter school systems. We will also support and professionally develop teachers, school districts and the communities they serve. We currently operate primarily in the Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
Our primary target now and in the future is to ultimately close the gap that exists between our low income and high income students, to provide equity in all aspects of education. We will start with a few key programs that are designed to help students gain the necessary access for educational success.
As an educator in my 20th year, I am an unapologetic child advocate. I was blessed to find my career niche very early in life and have remained steadfast in the educational arena ever since. I believe learning is a process and as I evolve as an educator, I learn to keep pace and support the learning styles of today’s youth. I have served in a variety of positions from teacher to administration to district office administration and beyond. I take great pride in saying that my all time favorite position is in the classroom with the next generation of leaders. Developing and nurturing this non profit organization came out of a variety of goals and objectives to continually build the capacity of our nations next leaders by looking beyond the common approach. Our organization seeks to provide the necessary equity at every opportunity. I embrace all stakeholders as a communal approach is the only way our children on the lower economic spectrum can reach their fullest potential.
